Hello and welcome back to the Cambrensis blog. We have some exciting news this week, as we’re delighted to announce that Cambrensis will be hosting our first-ever London Fashion Week event: ‘Cambrensis X Magnetic: Genoa Exhibition’ at the London Welsh Centre on 27th February, in conjunction with Wales Week London. Taking place over the week of St Davids day, and on the 10th anniversary of the events conception, Wales Week London aims to celebrate the beautiful culture of Wales in one of the largest international metropolitan cities in the world, with a strong creative community and a unique culture of its own. A huge thanks goes out to ‘Aspire’, a Merthyr based organisation focused on increasing employability for young people in the Welsh valleys, for partnering with us on our event and our short film, It truly wouldn’t be possible without the immense support shown.

Located on Grays Inn Road in central London, the London Welsh Centre has been in operation since 1937, with a mission to promote and preserve the Welsh language and culture. Long known for hosting community activities and cultural events, we see it as the perfect setting to showcase Cambrensis and the growing creative scene and youth culture coming out of South Wales.

This is an invite-only event with the aim of including as many fashion personalities, press and cultural figures as possible. However, anyone who has pre-ordered the Genoa collection is automatically entered for attendance.

Invitation requests can be sent to info@cambrensis.co.uk.

The event will feature a curated exhibition showcasing our finest and best-selling garments, alongside a live panel discussion with our Founder Ioan Bowen-Pickett and Magnetic author Tony Rivers, led by our From Collieries to Couture podcast host Brandon Richards. Together, we’ll be discussing all things Wales and fashion, as well as our Genoa collaboration, paying homage to 150 years of Italian Welsh heritage. We will also have a DJ in-house playing classic Italian house music.

We’ll also be hosting the official first screening of our brand-new short film: ‘Genoa’ Fashion Film, showcasing the Genoa collection. The film was shot at Viazzani Station Café in Merthyr Tydfil, the first and oldest Italian café in the town, and one of the last remaining true Italian-run cafes of that era, The film highlights our latest collaboration with Tony Rivers, author of Magnetic. The collection highlights 150 years of Italian Welsh immigration, something that has clearly shaped many towns especially in the Welsh valleys, with many Italians emigrating to the area during the height of the coal trade, often to work in the mines themselves or opening one of many Italian cafes that dotted the high streets including Viazzani's, Over the years this has formed a strong international connection between the two countries.

The ‘Genoa’ collection consists of the ‘Picinisco’ Tee, featuring a Welsh miner motif in the style of a Poste Italiane postage stamp in medieval blue, and the Bardi Jacket, a beautifully crafted piece in medieval blue with contrasting white stitching, shaped pocket flaps fixed at the side seams, and the ‘Genoa’ stamp design stitched into the inner lining as a calling card. Together, these pieces make for striking statement pieces, combining exceptional quality with distinctive design, and are sure to draw attention wherever they’re worn. We are expecting a restock on both garments in time for our event, the pieces will be on sale alongside more contemporary designs from our ‘Merthyr’ and ‘Y Barri’ collections.

As always, thank you for reading and we look forward to seeing many of you there in London, save the date!
