Collection: 'Merthyr'
The collection is named after the South Wales town of Merthyr Tydfil, which was once known as the ‘Iron Capital of the World’, due to the scale of its iron production in the early 19th century. ‘Merthyr’, is represented by Richard Trevithick’s ‘Catch Me Who Can’ steam railway locomotive, which was an evolution of three earlier locomotives that had been built for the likes of Penydarren Ironworks in Merthyr Tydfil.
