Merthyr Tydfil Murals: Honouring Dewi Bowen
Share

In May 2026, Cambrensis partnered with Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council to create two large-scale murals in the new Merthyr Tydfil Indoor Market, celebrating the artistic legacy of Dewi Bowen and his connection to the town. Measuring approximately 20 feet wide by 10 feet high each, the murals brought Dewi’s artwork into a permanent public space while reflecting the heritage and stories that continue to inspire Cambrensis.

The two murals feature artwork from across the Cambrensis story. The first depicts The Little Collier, the brand’s mascot originating from Dewi Bowen’s archive, while the second features the Genoa Poste Italiane artwork created through the Cambrensis x Magnetic collaboration. Together, the murals demonstrate how Dewi’s original artwork continues to influence Cambrensis’ contemporary work, connecting his artistic legacy with new interpretations of Welsh heritage.
The murals were unveiled publicly in May 2026 at Honouring Dewi Bowen: Mural Launch Event, bringing together members of the Merthyr Tydfil community, including people who knew Dewi and had been connected to his work. The event also featured screenings of Cambrensis’ The Little Collier and Genoa fashion films. The project created a permanent tribute to Dewi Bowen in the town he called home, while giving his work a new life through Cambrensis and placing Welsh heritage at the centre of a contemporary public space.
